FM170 Scenic Road to Presidio........15th/16th Feb

The road past our campsite is FM170 in fact it's the only road !  One way goes to Big Bend National Park and the other  through the State Park and to Presidio a small town 50 miles away.....
This and next photo is of the Contrabando Movie Set, these and some other buildings have been used for filming several Western Movies over the years.......
It's a very pretty and scenic route, dramatic in places as in keeping with the stunning landscape....for most of the drive the shoulder of the road has a great display of lupins or as they are called here Blue Bonnets.....
One of the many fascinating rock formations........
The Rio Grande just prior to Madera Canyon....with of course Mexico on the other side.......
We saw quite a few of these little chaps on the drive......this is a Javalina, a wild hog....they can be very vicious if cornered like most wild animals, they do attack dogs (it's in their DNA) as they used to be hunted with dogs......
When wild camping you are advised to check outside first before letting the dog out !!! Not that we wild camp or have dogs !
Taken for the safety of the truck!!
Another stunning Mesa as we now know they are called and not mountains/hills
A very pretty red cardinal
And our first sighting of a Roadrunner..........they can reach speeds of 20mph
Camp Harris, Maverick Ranch RV Park, Lajitas
For 3 days of our stay there has been a Bike-Fest, bicycles not Harley's this time so a lot quieter !
On the last day of the fest there was a carnival atmosphere, have to say these guys didn't compete in the races.......
We had a quick look at Presidio, not a lot there apart from the border crossing but the journey was well worth it for the scenic drive......
