A First Look at Sedona and Local Area......10th/11th Mar

Our campsite's water-tower, there will be more and better pics I'm sure....
Well another day and another type of weather....after the fog this morning the sky is again blue and it's warming up nicely, they now say we will have record high temps by the end of the week....ok with us :)
This campsite seems to be all we require to get ourselves set up nicely for at least the next week.....
We awoke this morning having put our clocks forward for daylight saving only to have to put them back again as Arizona do their own thing and ignore the rest of USA/World and never change their clocks :0
Our first look at the beautiful red rocks of Sedona, we were advised to drive in via the scenic 179 and to have a look today while there is still some snow on the mountains.......we are staying about 20 miles south of Sedona...
Our usual call into the visitors/rangers station for all of the info for hikes etc then a drive through Sedona itself
As the Ranger said Sedona has gone roundabout mad !! There are 4 in about half a mile, recently put in to replace the traffic lights when the road was upgraded.......we also have 2 near the campsite.......we have come across one roundabout before on our travels, I forget where, they are not common.....
This area is stunning, great views everywhere you look......
Sedona is 4000ft elevation, we are 3,500ft at our campsite......

We shall return others days and hike some trails etc.......
Day 2 at Camp Verde, Distant Drums RV Resort and as it's my birthday a glass of champagne before lunch.....

The next few pics are to try to show the fabulous drive along US89A from Prescott where we had lunch to Clarksdale.....we had not realised it was going to a be such a very scenic winding switch-back/hairpin route up  through the mountains, much like driving in Zagoria, Central Greece or up to the hill top towns of Italy.......
Still lots of snow from the weekend storm.....
The road  winds down through Jerome an old copper mining town that is now an artist/tourist area....
The fabulous view across the valley to Sedona......
The road !!!!!
..
Coming into Jerome.....again very reminiscent of the hill town of Italy....
We've had another great day and I've had a great birthday.....thank you to everyone who sent birthday wishes via email, e-card, Facebook et all.........back home to polish off the champagne and a few brandies.........
