Chiricahua National Monument........1st March

 Wow, wow and wow !!!!
It was over an hour's drive to get to The Chiricahua National Park, we had not been sure what to expect BUT it was and I use that word again awesome !!
Part of the 8.5 mile Bonita Canyon Scenic Drive from the Rangers Visitor Centre to end of the road at Massai Point and Nature Trail.... already the camera is clicking and yes there is snow but we are at an elevation of 6870ft.....
This is taken from the Rangers Information Leaflet "as you enter Chiricahua National Monument you are climbing up to a sky island-an isolated mountain range rising above the surrounding grassland sea. It's the rock pinnacles looming over the road like guardians of the forest that announce you're in Chiricahua country"
Harris Mountain, the one in the middle of pic.....taken from The Massai Nature Trail a short rocky trail of 360 degree vista, we are already enthralled by this beautiful stunning area, totally different from anything else we have seen......
Over the years the weaker rock and sand has been eroded by ice, water and wind leaving behind an endless variety of spires, balancing rocks and other shapes.....
We drove  a quarter mile back down Bonita Canyon Drive to Echo Canyon  trailhead........this was serious pack the sandwiches and water in the back pack and head out for the 3.5 mile hike.......
Michael is soon saying if we want to finish this hike before dark you need to stop taking photos !!!!
Part of the Echo Canyon Grotto

The rocky trail is very strenuous especially the first half and it did take us nearly 3 hours but it was worth every step.....it is the most stunning amazing scenery you can imagine......

The view across the valley from Echo Canyon......
Well I will say wow, wow and wow again,  the photos don't really do it justice especially on this blog  but we have had the most perfect day and although tired after the hike we are Very Happy Campers :)

  2. Just so impressive, well done with the photos - really good. Been ultra busy recently so sorry I've been quiet. Seems to me you are having a great time and its certainly one of the more scenic parts of the US. My trip postponed, now going in April and other ports of call added. Now looks like Perth, Indonesia, Singapore and Dubai! Why I'm doing this now goodness knows, but hey, its fun and someone is paying me to do it! Carry on enjoying, keep taking the photos!
