Tombstone, A...........28th Feb

Tombstone is 23 miles south of where we are staying in Benson.....it's a working town and not always easy to decide who are the actors and who are the residents.....it's fun....
The Tombstone Courthouse
Built in 1882 and was the county seat until 1929 when it was  moved to the city of Bisbee (the county seat not the building !!) 20 miles farther south. Except for an ill fated attempt to turn it into a hotel (much like Undershaw, a Conan-Doyle home back in Hindhead)  it stood empty and then was vandalised in the 1950's. It was restored by the Tombstone Restoration Commission and is now the historical museum and contains thousands of artifacts and information...this was our first stop......
Resident or......?
The Gunfight at the OK Corral re-enactment........it was ok and they tried hard to weave a bit of extra story but it was a bit slow and plodding and the bleachers were metal and cold on ones backside..........Tombstone is at an elevation of 4.500ft another 1000ft higher than Benson hence a little chilly although a perfect blue sky day.....
Tombstone is a living working town as well as a tourist attraction, I couldn't resist a pic of the library........I have rearranged the book swop here at the campsite just to keep my hand in !!! They did say I could be librarian for the week !!!
The drive to Tombstone was again interesting,  we drove through the town of St David about 8 miles south of Benson which actually had some water in the rivers and was a much more fertile landscape than we have seen for some time....
Of course we had to pass through The Border Control Inspection Point on our way home as again we are not that far from the Mexican border.......
